Kaffarah 2026
Kaffarah is a penalty for deliberately breaking a Ramadan fast without a valid reason. In most mainstream fiqh, it applies when a person intentionally invalidates a fast (e.g., by eating/drinking on purpose), and they must:
Make up the missed fast (Qada), and
Give Kaffarah: feeding 60 people (60 meals)
(or fasting 60 consecutive days in some rulings—if that is not possible, feeding is done).
How much is Kaffarah in 2026?
Kaffarah is 60 meals.
With us, that is arranged as 2 warm meals per day for 30 days:
£4 per day (2 warm meals)
£120 total (30 days)
✅ 100% of your Kaffarah provides warm, nutritious meals for people who are struggling.
When do I need to pay Kaffarah?
You may need Kaffarah if you deliberately break a fast in Ramadan without a valid excuse, such as:
Intentionally eating or drinking
Intentionally having sexual relations during the fast
Deliberately breaking the fast with no valid reason
Important: Many actions people assume require Kaffarah actually require Qada only (making up the fast) and sincere repentance. If you’re unsure, ask a qualified scholar for your madhhab, or contact us for guidance before donating.
Fidyah 2026
Fidyah is for someone who cannot fast and cannot make the fast up later (e.g., chronic illness or permanent inability).
Fidyah is 1 meal per missed fast
In 2026, that is £2 per missed fast (1 warm meal)
If your situation is temporary (e.g., short-term illness, travel, pregnancy/breastfeeding depending on ruling), you may need Qada (make-up fasts) instead of Fidyah.
Quick guide
Missed fast due to a valid reason (and you can make it up later):
→ Qada (make up the fast)
Unable to fast long-term and cannot make it up later:
→ Fidyah (£2 per missed fast)
Deliberately broke a Ramadan fast without a valid reason:
→ Qada + Kaffarah (£120)
